How we estimated your Ontario paycheck
Ontario paycheques go through five deductions before you see your net pay: federal income tax, Ontario provincial income tax, CPP (Canada Pension Plan), CPP2 on higher earnings, and EI (Employment Insurance). Each is calculated on your gross pay independently, then subtracted in sequence.
Ontario provincial tax
Ontario has five tax brackets for 2026:
| Taxable income | Rate |
|---|---|
| Up to $53,891 | 5.05% |
| $53,891 – $107,785 | 9.15% |
| $107,785 – $150,000 | 11.16% |
| $150,000 – $220,000 | 12.16% |
| Over $220,000 | 13.16% |
Ontario also charges a provincial surtax — an additional percentage on top of your basic Ontario tax once it crosses $5,818 (20% surtax) and $7,446 (an additional 36%, for 56% combined above that threshold). This mainly affects higher earners; it doesn’t apply to most Ontario paycheques under roughly $90,000.
Federal tax
Everyone in Canada, regardless of province, pays the same federal tax brackets:
| Taxable income | Rate |
|---|---|
| Up to $58,523 | 14% |
| $58,523 – $117,045 | 20.5% |
| $117,045 – $181,440 | 26% |
| $181,440 – $258,482 | 29% |
| Over $258,482 | 33% |
A federal basic personal amount (up to $16,452) is tax-free, and this amount gradually reduces for income above $181,440.
CPP and CPP2
Ontario employees contribute to the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), not the Quebec Pension Plan. The base CPP rate is 5.95% on earnings between $3,500 and $74,600. If you earn more than $74,600, a second contribution — CPP2 — applies at 4% on earnings up to $85,000, capping your combined CPP contributions at $4,646.45 for 2026.
EI
Ontario workers pay the standard national EI rate of 1.63% on insurable earnings up to $68,900, for a maximum annual premium of $1,123.07 in 2026. (Quebec’s rate is lower because Quebec runs its own parental insurance program — see our Quebec paycheck calculator.)
Example: $75,000 salary in Ontario
For an Ontario employee earning a $75,000 annual salary, paid biweekly, with no additional deductions:
- Federal tax: approximately $9,268/year
- Ontario tax: approximately $3,997/year
- CPP + CPP2: approximately $4,246/year
- EI: approximately $1,123/year
- Estimated net pay: approximately $56,366/year, or roughly $2,168 per biweekly pay period
- Ontario’s general minimum wage is $17.60/hour, rising to $17.95/hour on October 1, 2026.
- CRA’s payroll formulas (T4127) are issued twice a year; a mid-2026 revision took effect July 1, 2026. Most employees won’t notice a difference, but this calculator reflects the current published figures.
- The CPP2 additional contribution, introduced in 2024, continues to apply in 2026 for Ontario employees earning above $74,600.
